Opening up for Alice Cooper: HIS SON!

I had the opportunity to conduct a phone interview with the up and coming band CO-OP. The five members, including Dash Cooper (son of local legend Alice Cooper), were all very enjoyable to talk to and had a good attitude. There were funny responses to the questions, but altogether when we got serious I found out a little more about them. Here are the questions and answers:

Q: How did you form CO-OP?
A: Before Co-Op, we [Dash Cooper and Mark Savale] were in a band called Runaway Phoenix. About 2 years ago, they added Court Stumpf, Justin Swartzentruber, and finally Kolby Peoples. Kolby was the sound engineer for the band and with hard work he became the rhythm guitarist for CO-OP.

Q: Do you guys all get along or do you disagree on a lot of things?
A: *laughter* We fight just like everyone else, but it’s nice to have similar taste in music. A big influence on us is AC/DC. And Court’s favorite is Kanye West (Just Kidding). We always make sure to put our friendship first before our music.

Q: How do you make final decisions in your music?
A: NAKED ARM WRESTLING!!!! No, but really. We just test out everyone’s ideas and go with whatever sounds the best.

Q: Who does the main songwriting?
A: The process is different for each song. We will start with some improv and if it sounds good we write it down. Each person writes for their own part.

Q: What has been your favorite place to perform so far?
A: Talking Stick Arena!
[me: you guys haven’t played the show yet! You’re predicting it’ll be your favorite place?]
A: Yes!! But one place we really liked performing is the Rock Bar.

Q: What would be your ideal place to perform?
A: [Each person had a different anwer]: Red Rock, Madison Square Garden, Disneyland!!!!

Interviewing CO-OP was a very fun experience. They all had very positive energy and have a lot of excitement for all the upcoming events. CO-OP has their EP available online now for FREE HERE: http://www.co-opband.com/#!music/c10tw

Their full album is expected to be released January 2016.
